The numbers are revealed: How many Jews have received Portuguese citizenship in recent years? Adv. Itay Mor for “Israel Today”: “Tremendous success of the Portuguese Citizenship Law”

The Portuguese Ministry of Justice published this week the number of Jews who have received Portuguese citizenship in the last seven years – from March 2015 to January 2022, based on their recognition as descendants of deportees of Spanish and Portuguese descent. This number stands at 56,685 descendants and today more than 80,000 applications have not yet been reviewed under the Citizenship Act Amendment which came into force in 2015. A total of a respectable number of more than 137,000 applications for Portuguese citizenship have been received to date.

Adv. Itay Mor, president of the Zionist movement “Over the Rainbow Portugal” commented on the data to “Israel Today“:

The new data illustrate the tremendous success of the Portuguese Citizenship Law. Many Jews and Israelis are already reconnecting to their roots and enjoying the many opportunities the phenomenon brings. Cultural, value, roots and business connection with a country that has become Israel’s partner. The new reality makes Portugal one of the partners. “Israel’s senior strategies, and is a golden opportunity for hundreds of thousands of Israelis to board the train of galloping success and reap the fruits of the strong partnership that has been forged in recent years between the two countries.”
