António Costa has just been re-elected as Prime Minister of Portugal and, it seems, will spend a total of ten years in this role. If in the last six years in office, the Jewish community in Portugal has not stopped growing, we believe that even better times are coming and that the community will grow even more in the next four years. And growing up doesn’t just mean that more descendants of Jews expelled from Portugal, in a historic injustice for hundreds of years, arrive in the territory. Growing up means that the community expands in number, but also in the depth of the relationship with its old-new country.

In recent years thousands of people have come to Portugal with the desire to get to know it. They came to reconnect with the country of their ancestors, but also to help build a country for their descendants. They work daily and invest in sectors such as tourism, construction, and real estate.

The election results are clear and end months of uncertainty. It is time for the Government to do what it has to do, enforcing the state budget and applying the long-awaited European funds. Better days await us, with greater stability and economic splendor.

We, on our side, which after all is the same as all other Portuguese people, will continue to do our part. We will continue to strengthen our relationship with the other Portuguese, socially, culturally and economically. Congratulations, Antonio Costa. Congratulations, Portugal. I wish you four more years of cooperation and integration.
