A peek into the future
Looking at the Covid-19 situation in Israel has been looking to the future of the situation in Portugal. Israel has had the ability to stay ahead of Europe, for better or for worse, and has been able to predict the next step for Covid-19. When in Portugal there is talk of the possibility of a fifth wave, in Israel there is already talk of the coming of a sixth, the administration of the vaccine to children from 5 to 11 years of age has been approved and the first worldwide simulation against covid has just been held. -19, which tested the level of preparedness of government and public institutions to deal with an outbreak of a new variant.
In Israel in November 2021, more than 6 million inhabitants have the first dose of the vaccine against the new coronavirus, almost 6 million have the second dose and more than 4 million have the third dose, which is now beginning to be administered in Portugal .
In Israel, there are two points under discussion. One is the discussion of the need for a fourth dose. Another is the effectiveness of a third dose and the possibility that we are getting vaccines every six months. This discussion has nothing to do with denial or anti-vaccinations, but with critical thinking that seeks to answer questions that no one seems to know how to answer. The vaccination of children is also being discussed in Israel. We are going to vaccinate children for the benefit of older people, who are already vaccinated, as the effects of the virus on children appear to be reduced. Will it make sense? Of course, the numbers in Israel show that the most serious cases of Covid are among people who do not accept the vaccine. This is another glimpse into the future: the deniers continue to exist and gain more strength as new waves arise.
Also in Israel, those responsible for the vaccination process left office, thinking that their task was complete. In Portugal, the person responsible for reaching the target of 85% vaccinated, is no longer on a mission at a time when only 250,000 people took the third dose. Probably, Portugal, like Israel, will realize that a man from the sea was needed for one more vacancy.
