Many times, we have told you how amazing and diverse Portugal is in its beauty. You can find in it all the types of landscapes you can only think of. From Modern urban views to magnificent palaces built back in the middle Ages, from the shores of the ocean to tropical islands, full of plants and flowers of various kinds. One of these islands is Madeira Island.
If you have not yet discovered Madeira Island as a destination for a perfect vacation or starting a business because of its tax benefits, we highly recommend you do so, otherwise, you will miss the island that has been officially crowned as the best destination in Europe at the World Travel Awards, which is considered the Oscar in the tourism industry.
According to a report by The Portugal News website, Madeira Island won for the eighth time in the category of the best European island destination at the 28th World Travel Awards, in which 29 islands competed, including the Azores.
Quoted in the note, the regional secretary for Tourism and Culture of Madeira, Eduardo Jesus, considers that this is “a remarkable achievement”.
The Madeiran ruler highlights the number of times Madeira has won this award, which contributes “to give more consistency to the recognition that the region has achieved worldwide in recent years”, including the “confidence generated with the security presented by the destination in the pandemic control”.
In Eduardo Jesus’ opinion, the attribution of this award “should fill all those who work in Tourism in the region with pride, as well as the residents, who see their land being continuously valued internationally and the thousands of visitors who value their holiday destination even more”.
“We have reasons to be pleased also by the way in which the destination reacted to the pandemic, through the affirmation of the safety that is lived here,” he stresses.
The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 and are awarded annually to recognize, reward, and celebrate excellence in all key sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries.
Madeira has already been awarded six consecutive times as the World’s Best Island Destination between 2015 and 2020.
The region has won eight awards as Best Island Destination in Europe, in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and this year.
If you are already marking Madeira Island as your next destination, you should know that apart from the comfortable climate, amazing landscapes and festivals, cheap living, Madeira Island is also a tax haven and in early 2021, it opened the first digital nomadic village in Europe.
