“Currently, anyone who submits his application for a golden visa before January 1, 2022, will be entitled to the current visa conditions before the requirements are tightened,” says advocate Itay Mor. “The many benefits of a golden visa make many Israelis consider the Portuguese golden visa option even if they have no affiliation with Spanish deportees and are not allowed to obtain a Portuguese passport based on their origin. For those interested in a Portuguese golden visa, the window of opportunity now closes.
In an article for the Patriarch’s website, advocate Itay Mor explained the significant aggravation of the conditions for obtaining a Golden Visa that grants Portuguese citizenship after 5 years to foreign citizens investing in Portugal. For example, the minimum amount of money that can be closed in a bank in Portugal is one million euros and from January 2022 will increase to the amount of 1.5 million euros. In the second route of investing in equity funds, the entry threshold currently stands at 350,000 euros and from January will rise to an amount of at least 500,000 euros.
The most notable change will be in the real estate investment route. From January 2022, investors will be required to invest in low-density areas and will be asked to avoid areas of demand such as Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve province.
In light of the short schedules, the preferred route that will allow the process to be completed quickly is investing in equity funds.
