From September 1, Portugal has banned the entry of Israelis into its territory, including the vaccinated. Adv. Itay Mor: “We will continue to put pressure on decision makers to remove the decree soon.”

It is important for us to update you always first on all of Portugal’s decisions regarding Israel. We were the first to report in the Facebook group “Over the rainbow Portugal” that Portugal is the first EU country to ban Israelis from entering its territory, even vaccinated people with an Israeli vaccination certificate due to the increase in morbidity in the country.

On 31th of August, the European Union decided to exclude Israel from the list of green countries due to rising morbidity, and the Portuguese government aligned itself with EU recommendations and ruled that Israelis would be allowed into Portugal only for urgent purposes and with special approval, such as family reunification, students, medical, humanitarian reasons, etc.

In an interview with YNET and N12, Advocate Itay Mor, the chairman of the Zionist movement “Over the Rainbow Portugal” said:

“Unfortunately, following the European Union’s directive in recent days that it has been decided to remove Israel from the list of green countries, the Portuguese government aligned itself yesterday with a government decision that will take effect from today and in fact prohibits entry from Portugal from Israel except for justified travel.

We are sorry about the decision, certainly in light of the fact that most Israelis are vaccinated and it was appropriate that at this stage the EU should already recognize Israeli vaccinators’ certificates,” he added. “It is important to recognize that holders of European citizenship will not be barred from entering Portugal at this stage. We will continue to put pressure on decision-makers to remove the decree soon.”

In another article on YNET, they checked with various airlines how much Portugal’s decision will affect holiday flights and mentioned Adv. Itay Mor saying about the fact that pressure continues to be exerted on decision-makers to change the decision. Read the article here.

Please note that Israelis with a Portuguese or other EU passport can enter Portugal. Holders of Portuguese citizenship with permanent residency in Portugal can convert the Israeli vaccinator’s certificate into an EU certificate free of charge, within 72 hours.
