The Zionist movement ‘Over the Rainbow Portugal’ develops a platform with tourism offers in Portugal for the Jewish community

The leading Ambitur website dedicated to news about the Portuguese tourism industry published an interview earlier this month with Adv. Itay Mor, chairman of the ‘Over the Rainbow Portugal’ movement, who spoke about developing a new tourism platform to expose the Jewish community to the wonderful things Portugal offers.

In an interview, Adv. Itay Mor spoke about the renewed relationship between Portugal and Israel over the past six years, following the historic move by the Portuguese government, which recognized the horrors of the Inquisition (in which hundreds of thousands of Jews were murdered, deported or even converted to Christianity in the Iberian Peninsula). A move that propelled the entire relationship.

“In 2015, an amendment to the Portuguese Citizenship Law came into force, which is in fact the starting point for restoring the connection between Portuguese and Jewish descendants at that historic moment,” he explains.

From then on, over 100,000 Jews applied for European citizenship in order to build a more secure future for themselves: “Many of them discovered Portugal and even fell in love with the country. In short: history has sought to correct itself!” Adv. Itay Mor congratulates those responsible.

At a time when the corona may be an “obstacle” to travel, Adv. Itay Mor emphasizes, however, that there is a growing number of Israelis who are interested in coming to Portugal despite the existing restrictions.

The chairman of the ‘Over the Rainbow Portugal’ movement also lamented the fact that the Israeli vaccination certificate is still unacceptable: “If it is accepted (there is no reason not to), I believe it will make more tourists come from Israel.”

Adv. Itay Mor said that ‘Over the Rainbow Portugal’ was created with the aim of increasing the Israeli presence in Portugal. “We strive to build a cultural and commercial bridge between the two worlds and at the same time show Portugal in all its aspects to the global Jewish community.”

Advocate Itay Mor said that the mission of this non-profit movement is to create mutual and fruitful cooperation between Israel and Portugal with broad activity at all levels. The goal, he said, is to encourage Jews and Israelis to visit and experience the various attractions that exist in Portugal beyond Lisbon or Porto.
