The Ministries of Labor and Social Security noted that in the first phase of the National Plan for Work Spaces, 16 spaces would open in the north, 23 in the center, three in Alentejo and 11 in the Algarve area.
“The establishment of these joint workspaces under the Economic and Social Stabilization Program (PEES) will contribute to the dynamism of all regions in the country, facilitate the establishment of companies and reduce the need to get to work in major cities. As a result, the work spaces will economize the traffic jams, fuel and air pollution created by the large number of people who travel to work every day and will improve the quality of life of the entire population, by promoting a career-family balance”, said in the statement.
Furthermore, the statement states that the workspaces will be located in central areas, near cultural centers or near sports fields and training facilities. The areas will be properly equipped with computers, printers and Internet access and would divide into areas according to different professional spheres. The spaces will have private areas for video calls, areas for meetings and places for activities.
The marketing of the workspaces will be the responsibility of the city councils, and they will provide photos or videos for virtual visits of future users, as well as provide information on the characteristics of the space, terms of use,
time of use and costs. The government has pledged to consider allocating European funds if necessary, to support the employment and mobility of workers and to participate in the physical adaptation of these spaces and the purchase of furniture or a computer.
