About a third of the citizens of Portugal last year were Israelis
This is what the YNET and Makor Rishon – israeli news websites in hebrew indicate.
Despite the corona, and thanks to the amendment for Jewish descendants: According to the Portuguese Ministry of Justice, Israel is in second place on the list of citizens receiving after Brazil, which overtook it in only 65 applications, and its citizens are about a quarter of the country’s foreigners.
Advocate Itay Mor, president of the “Beyond the Rainbow of Portugal” association, told YNET and Makor Rishon:
“The data is amazing. From the moment, the Portuguese government approved the amendment in the law, Jews from all over the world return to their roots in Portugal. Every day I witness more and more people wanting to realize their rights and in addition, get to know the existing Jewish communities better and do business in Portugal. I believe that Israel will also star this year, despite the corona, in the first places in obtaining Portuguese citizenship.”
In addition, in an interview with the Portuguese website Diario de Noticias on the same subject, lawyer Itay Mor added that 20,000 Jews have recently moved to Portugal and contributed billions of euros to the Portuguese economy.
