Surfing the soul? The sea is your favorite place? You must know this town!
The town of Nazra is located about 125 km north of Lisbon, a resort town that kisses the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The town of Nazra is the Portuguese equivalent of the city of Nazareth and is even named after it! Amazing, no?!
Nazra has one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal if not in the whole of Europe. North of the beach rises the 320-meter “Citio” cliff.
The town used to be a fishing town, today it is known as a tourist destination, so you will find a variety of restaurants and hotels there.
The old women of the city still dress in traditional attire – seven flannel skirts on top of each other and a scarf hat or headscarf. This dress was characteristic of the women fisherman in the past.
So, those who plan to arrive in the summer months probably encounter a lot of tourists from all over the world who have come to vacation mostly in the “back belly” style. On the other hand, those who arrive in the winter months are expected to meet tourists of a different kind – professional surfers and amateurs who come for the waves of Nazra, known as the highest waves in the world. Every year a surfing competition is held in the town called: “Nazaré Big Wave Tow Surfing Challenge RECAP” – Nazra’s huge wave challenge.
Nazra is divided into three areas – Praia (coastal area), Citio (the village on the cliff) and Pendernaira (the village which is at the top of the hill) in the city mainly you can enjoy the amazing views, walk and enjoy good meals in restaurants in the center.
If you are planning to travel to Portugal add this city to your plans. Although the sky is still closed but it is always worth planning and dreaming about the next vacation. So if you love surfing or just want to witness the forces of nature, whether you love the amazing view of the ocean or just relaxing at sea, this Nazareth is the town for you.
