Green light for tourism now!

The lawyer Itay Mor, president of the association Over the Rainbow of Portugal, was interviewed by the Portuguese magazine observer about the European Commission’s initiative for a green passport in Europe. The plague changed everyone’s lives, but particularly affected certain areas, such as tourism. It is time to look to the future and think of measures that can contribute to the recovery of the industry. And while vaccines are of paramount importance, the existence of a green passport is increasingly becoming an effective idea for saving tourism. After a difficult period in the health care system and after all the closures, we must now think about what to do next and what can be done to get back to routine and get back to business. The vaccines have shown us that there is an effective weapon to eradicate the plague and today we know from experience how effective the vaccines are. Let us look, for example, at the case of Israel. The leading country in the implementation of vaccines that has already vaccinated most of its population. Due to the rapid vaccination campaign, Israel is now starting to return to routine and launched, on February 21, the green passport, which gives exclusive access to places like gyms, hotels or cultural venues, such as cinemas and concerts. By downloading an app, you can show that someone has been vaccinated or has recovered from the disease. In addition to encouraging people to get vaccinated, the passport may make people feel safer going back to restaurants, shopping malls, gyms, shows, etc. The European Commission will propose to create a digital green passport. It will be important if this measure is adopted in Portugal as well. The catering and tourism sectors were severely affected by the epidemic and are two sectors with a high level of activity, contributing greatly to the national product. Instead of talking about it, it’s important to act – and act fast, not wait for summer. If the passport is applied for in the coming weeks, the recovery will be much quicker and more efficient. Portugal is known around the world for its gastronomy, natural diversity and welcoming tourism, which grew rapidly before the plague began. And this is a route that we must renew as soon as possible.
